And finally, I would say that my own marketing is a prime example of the point in this article. I’ve spent the last two years imitating others, and my marketing underperforms horribly. I attract readers who aren’t interested in headlines like that.

You probably aren’t a regular reader of mine, but I polled my readers and email list a couple months ago and found that out. I’m redoing a lot of my products and will be re-orienting how I promote them away from some of the hypey nonsense this year.

That’s the thing man, they really do believe they’re doing good work. It’s not about ‘appearing’ to care, they actually do. The problem is that what they do isn’t as effective as they think it is. They just don’t know better, which is why I can’t really get angry at them, like a lot of the PUA hate guys. Your name suggests maybe you’re one of them, I’m not sure.

And that example I gave was more about saying why I admire those guys outside of their dating advice, rather than legitimizing what they teach. I still wouldn’t encourage anyone to use their products.

Yeah I’m from PUAhate ;)

I said “appearing” because it’s your impression. I’m not going to argue it, I think they believe in what they do, but others might very well disagree with that, so it’s just my impression so far.

I don’t get “angry” with them, but I despise what they do for a living. It’s their responsibility to make sure they’re actually helping people, and they don’t. They don’t control for quality, they don’t apply any sound scientific mehtods, they don’t even bother educating themselves in their field(Psychology/sociology would both give some merit). They shut out critical thinking (which is the most contructive type of thought with concerns to the end-result) as “negativity” and a lot of them seem very obsessed with themselves as “gurus” and more concerned with keeping up the identity of a guru who cares, then someone who actually offers legit advice.
